Where we previously operated with 3+1 wide cranes, the 6+1 wide Kalmar cranes have helped us to increase our terminal capacity using the same operational area Le Tuan Anh, General Director, SNP Technical Department
SNP handles about 80 percent of the region's import and export volumes, and nearly half of the national volume. In 2005, the company made the decision to shift its main container handling operations to Cat Lai terminal in Ho Chi Minh City's District 2. With an area of 800,000 square metres, Cat Lai can accommodate the industry's most advanced equipment. SNP was also looking to improve its energy-efficiency and environmental performance.
SNP has gradually replaced its smaller cranes with 6+1 wide and 1-over-5 high Kalmar RTGs. The company's six Kalmar Zero Emission RTG cranes produce considerably less noise than traditional solutions and are also cheaper to operate and maintain. The RTGs cut SNPs energy costs by regenerating energy when lowering loads and feeding it back to the network. And with no oil required, the terminal is an even greener environment.
"The economic benefits are clear," says Le Tuan Anh, General Director of the SNP Technical Department. "Where we previously operated with 3+1 wide cranes, the 6+1 wide Kalmar cranes have helped us to increase our terminal capacity using the same operational area."
